Capacity 380ml/13fl oz
This bone china mug depicts a Scottish Thistle in the style of 9th century ancient Celtic manuscripts which would have been painted by monks onto vellum or calf skin.
Legend has it that the Thistle was adopted as the symbol of Scotland when a Viking raider accidentally stepped on the spikey plant and cried out in pain, alerting a band of sleeping Scottish warriors to his presence and thwarting the would be invasion. Now Scotland's National Flower, the Thistle symbolises resiliency, strength, protection, and pride.
